Location

To get to Koh Chang from bangkok by government bus, you will have to go to  Ekkamai Bus Station. There are busses to the ferry, leamgnob or to Trat. Ticket prices are around 350 Baht per person. The location of the port where the ferry departs for Koh Chang is named Laem Ngop, but the nearest city where some buses go to is Trat, and you then have to get a van (shared taxi) to the ferry port. Sometimes the buses going to Trat will drop you off about 20 km before Trat where you will transfer to a van which will take you to the pier. There will be a small charge for this, but you would have had to pay for the transfer from Trat anyway, so it is no big deal and will save you time.

The buses from Bangkok have spaces on them nearly everyday except Thai holidays so you can just turn up with a reservation. The journey from Bangkok to the ferry takes around 4/5 hours.

There are several minibus companies offering the transfer to Koh Chang including ferry and drop off at the hotel. However, since Covid all regular services have been suspended, we expect that some will restart soon. If so you should be able to find them in one of the many tourist agencies in Bangkok. 

An comfortable option to get to Cliff Cottage is renting a private car with driver, these can be shared with up to 4 or 6 people. It is the fastest and a quite affordable option for families or group of friends. The driver will pick up at the hotel or airport, and drop you at our hotel. A private charter should be 4000 to 5000 bht depending the size of the car. Most of the drivers will not include the ferry wihich is 80 bht pp.

Bangkok Airways own and operate Trat airport and as such they maintain a monopoly over the prices of flights. Expect to pay around 2000+ baht one way to or from Bangkok. Trat airport is about 15mins from the ferry pier at Laem Ngop and is a great way for people to get to Koh Chang if they don’t like road travel. The flight takes less than 40 minutes. Transport from the airport to the ferry pier is readily available as are direct minibus whch you can book on arrival in the tiny airport, the transfer including ferry to Cliff cottage is 550 bht, including ferry.
